The State Hockey Centre in Sydney was built in 1998 for the 2000 summer Olympic Games. The roof structure provides visitors with extensive protection from the sun.
The elegant roof structure is lightweight and cost-effective. Tension cables transfer all forces from dead load and wind load. The design principle facilitates a roof shape that inclines forwards and curves to the side. This provides more shade for spectators than other conventional roof profiles. All cable coupling points at the edge of the roof and on the masts are supported in spherical plain bearings with an ELGOGLIDE® coating.
