Suction rolls are installed in the wire or press section of a paper machine. The rotating roll shell with its many small holes and the vacuum inside the roll remove some of the water from the web running over it. The dimensions of the suction box are decisive for the size of the main bearings at the operator’s end. Spherical roller bearings are used at all positions as shaft deflections and high loads have to be accommodated. All bearings are connected to a central oil lubrication system.
