The Project Planning Company for Regenerative Energy Systems (Projekt GmbH) was founded in Oldenburg in 1993. It specializes primarily in the development and realization of wind farm projects. Likewise, the company’s core business includes technical management of wind turbines as well as assessor services at home and abroad. Challenge for Schaeffler Projekt GmbH is responsible for the planning, realization and technical manage- ment activities of the Oldenbroker Feld wind farm. This wind farm set up in late 2001 comprises totally nine wind turbines. Projekt GmbH was looking for a condition monitoring system for the wind farm that met the ”Allianz Zentrum für Technik“ (AZT) requirements.

The client is a major player in the renewable energy market in Australia with hydro and wind power sites across Australia and the world. In 2006, the company generated 198 MW of hydro energy with the objective to reach over 500 MW within five years. Challenge for Schaeffler: At one of their wind farms, the customer was experiencing repeated failures, among others on the bearings of the generators. To prevent unplanned shutdowns and costly secondary damage, the client decided to test the FAG WiPro system and service of Schaeffler Australia.

Geolica is a producer of renewable energy in the wind energy sector that currently operates two wind farms in Spain, with an installed total power of 84,8 MW. Challenge for Schaeffler: An unexpected downtime due to damage to any component in the drive train of a wind turbine can have significant economic consequences in terms of production disruption and repair costs.
