Where locating bearing and non-locating bearings are accommodated
in separate housings it is possible that, due to mounting and
manufacturing inaccuracies as well as the shaft deflection resulting
from operating loads, the only bearing type that can be used is
one with an angular adjustment facility. Due to the high loads acting
on the rotor bearings, spherical roller bearings are the preferred
bearing type here.

Large-Scale Wind Farm Monitoring

Schaeffler monitoring systems ensure plant availability in the Fântânele-Cogealac-Grădina Wind Farm, the biggest onshore wind farm in Romania. 240 FAG WiPro units are used for this. System design and programming of the measurement tasks were especially tailored to the customer’s turbines. In addition, an international team of Schaeffler condition monitoring experts set up an independent computer network throughout the wind park purely for condition monitoring purposes.

Reliable Online Condition Monitoring of Wind Turbines

The Crystal Rig wind farm is situated about 40 km East of Edinburgh and, with 25 wind turbines, is one of the largest onshore wind farms in Scotland. Fred. Olsen Renewables, which built and operates the site, was looking for a reliable supplier of online monitoring systems for vibration monitoring. It decided in favour of Schaeffler and the online monitoring system FAG WiPro s. Since the monitoring systems were installed, several cases of damage to generator bearings and gearbox problems have been detected at a very early stage. As a result, it was possible to plan the necessary repair work early on and prevent expensive, unplanned downtime.
